Voluntary Carbon Market Could Triple in Size by 2015

The Voluntary Carbon Markets Association presented to the Carbon Expo Australasia 2010 held in Melbourne.

Ric Brazzale, President of the Voluntary Carbon Markets Association said:

“We are optimistic about the growth of the voluntary carbon market over the next few years.”

“In 2009, the voluntary carbon market delivered 5-6 million tonnes of carbon abatement – by 2015 the voluntary carbon market could triple in size.”

“With the right policy settings, the voluntary carbon market could deliver 15-20 million tonnes of abatement each year, by 2020.”

“This would amount to 3-4 per cent of Australia’s projected carbon emissions.”

“We welcome the news the Carbon Farming Initiative will be legislated next year and we look forward to working constructively with the Federal Government to ensure the voluntary carbon market flourishes.”
